ADHD therapy consists of eight weekly sessions of two hours in groups from two to four children.
Art therapy for children with ADHD
(1) ADHD children may have to learn to better express their emotions verbally. During the art therapy process they can reveal feelings and share their experiences with others that are affected too.
(2) Relaxation exercises are practised in therapy. Together we also learn how the children can use them independently, for example at school.
(3) We use visual aids like different colors, posters with the tasks of a day and differently marked boxes to train adherence to structures and time limits
(4) Special creativity based exercises will help them improve and develop their motor skills, attention, orientation and concentration, which will consequently influence their writing skills and body awareness.
(5) Being in a group will give them the possibility of simulating school/family situation which will improve their communication skills.
(6) Very importantly, we never forget to have fun in our therapy sessions.
(7) Parents will also benefit from art therapy - they will find new ways of communicating with
their children and coping with their problems which will have positive influence on
parent-child and parent-parent relationship.
